(Excerpt from Keeping Score, the precursor story to Capturing Captain America)
Sometimes you have to be wrong to get it right. Numbers don’t lie or do they? A math teacher has tried everything to get her students ready for the California state-wide exam meant to measure high school academic performance. The kids fail badly and land in the 10th percentile. Now she is under probation and has to report to the school board’s hired gun, an educational consultant who has represented the establishment in her eyes for years. Both their incomes are stake and doomed to go to zero if they don’t succeed in getting the students to earn the right score. Unfortunately, they each give one another a failing grade on the right solution.
FYI: The plot was partially inspired by the TV show “Numb3rs”, which featured the two mathematician characters Charlie and Amita.
